08. Top 10 Copenhagen ( Eyewitness Travel Guides)
Top 10 Copenhagen offers you a good taste of Danish capital . This guide basically discusses the major touristic sites of the city such as Tivoli, Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, Kongens Nytorv, Nyhavn, etc. I don't personally recommend it for you if you are planning to stay for a longer time in the city. I would rather pick "Fodor's Essential Scandinavia" guide or Lonely Planet Denmark's one. I new edition of Top 10 Copenhagen was released last year. I haven't seen it yet , but I hope it comes with more detailed pictures and maps.

09. The Danish Language in the Digital Age / Det Danske Sprog i den Digitale Tidsalder
Information technology changes our everyday lives.
We typically use computers for writing, editing, calculating, and information
searching, and increasingly for reading, listening to music, viewing photos and
watching movies. We carry small computers in our pockets and use them to make
phone calls, write emails, get information and entertain ourselves, wherever we
are. How does this massive digitisation of information, knowledge and everyday
communication affect our language? Will our language change or even disappear?
All our computers are linked together into an
increasingly dense and powerful global network. The girl in Ipanema, the
customs officer in Padborg and the engineer in Kathmandu can all chat with
their friends on Facebook, but they are unlikely ever to meet one another in
online communities and forums. If they are worried about how to treat earache,
they will all check Wikipedia to find out all about it, but even then they
won’t read the same article. When Europe’s netizens discuss the effects of the
Fukushima nuclear accident on European energy policy in forums and chat rooms,
they do so in cleanly-separated language communities. What the internet
connects is still divided by the languages of its users. Will it always be like
this?
Many of the world’s 6,000 languages will not
survive in a globalised digital information society. It is estimated that at
least 2,000 languages are doomed to extinction in the decades ahead. Others
will continue to play a role in families and neighbourhoods, but not in the
wider business and academic world. What are the Danish
language’s chances of survival?
10. Swein Forkbeard's Invasions and the Danish Conquest of England, 991-1017
From the battle of Maldon in 991 during the reign of ?ethelred (the Unready), England was invaded by Scandinavian armies of increasing size and ferocity. Swein Forkbeard, king of Denmark, played a significant part in these invasions, which culminated in the domination of England and the long reign of his son, Cnut. This analysis of the invasions demonstrates beyond doubt that ?thelred was no indolent and worthless king who bribed invading Vikings to go away: his relationship with the Scandinavian armies was more complex and more interesting than has been supposed. It is equally apparent that Swein was more than a marauding Viking adventurer: he was a sophisticated politician who laid the foundations for a great northern empire which was ruled by his descendents for many years after his death. New insight into this exciting period of English history is gained by focusing on the activities of Swein Forkbeard and, after his death in 1014, the Danish warlord Thorkell the Tall, both outstanding warriors and political leaders of what is sometimes called 'the Second Viking Age'. Many factors leading to the invasions and conquest are investigated through a critical analysis of the chronology of events, an explanation of the economic background, plotting the itineraries of the Scandinavian armies, and a fresh examination of the sources, including the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, the Encomium, and John of Worcester's Chronicle.
11. An Introduction to Danish Culture
For many non-Danish citizens of the world, Denmark remains an enigma. Too often confused with other Scandinavian countries, this southernmost Nordic nation has been characterized by stereotypes and cliches related to socialism, cradle-to-grave security, football, pornography, Hamlet, pigs, dairy cattle, and beer. This enlightening guide to Danish society, culture, and history offers an inside look at the "real" Denmark, highlighting the best of both the country and its people. It details Denmark's substantial contributions to science, engineering, exploration, seafaring, literature, philosophy, music, architecture, and many other fields. Brief portraits depict well-known Danes, including "Clown Prince of Denmark" Victor Borge, Hans Christian Andersen, Kierkegaard, and Out of Africa author Karen Blixen. Throughout, Denmark's outstanding human rights record, democratic institutions, and humanistic traditions are clear. By illuminating Danish culture and clarifying misperceptions, this work fosters a greater appreciation of Denmark, its people, and their way of life.
12. Beginner's Danish
The smallest of the Scandinavian countries, Denmark is made up of a peninsula (Jutland) attached to northern Germany, and a collection of islands known as the Danish Archipelago.
Modern spoken Danish has gained a reputation as being exceptional and difficult for foreigners to understand and master. The nine Danish vowels represent sixteen different sounds and most of the consonants are unvoiced. A unique feature is the 'stod', the glottal stop, used to distinguish between several homonyms and words. The Danes also tend to drop inflectional endings, and this perceived mumbling, even in formal standard Danish, may present problems to those learning the language.
The audio CDs emphasise pronunciation and address these issues in a series of engaging exercises on greetings, family, athletics, dining, illness, holidays and celebrations. Perfect for both classroom and independent students, the book also contains lessons on grammar, a glossary of vocabulary words, and a thorough introduction to Danish history and culture.
